A global program to reduce tobacco use in low- and middle-income countries was launched in 2006 with funds from Bloomberg Philanthropies. A competitively awarded grants program is an important part of the Program. The grants program supports projects to develop and deliver high-impact tobacco control interventions.
The grants program is managed by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
Project Ideas are now being accepted for Round Four of the grants program. The deadline for submitting Project Ideas is 18:00 hours, US Eastern Daylight Time (GMT -4 hours) on Wednesday, 13 August 2008.
Proposals must focus on achieving policy change that will lead to substantial reductions in tobacco use.
- Tax and price measures, including anti-smuggling measures
- Establishment of smoke-free workplaces and public places, and effective enforcement of smoke-free policies
- Direct and indirect advertising bans and effective enforcement of direct and indirect advertising bans
- Other evidence-based regulatory/legislative initiatives
